Based on the Leyland single car experimental 1970s railbuses, the unique Class 140 unit was constructed at Derby in 1979, and during 1980 and 1981 it conduced trials in various parts of the country. The design led to the production of the Class 141 units, which then evolved into the Class 142-144 Pacer fleet. 140001 was withdrawn in 1990, and has been preserved at the Keith & Dufftown Railway. The nearly 40 year old unit is definitely in non-running condition, when pictured here at Dufftown on 31 August 2018. |
