155317 approaches Cheltenham on 17 March 1988 with the 2M24 09:00 Cardiff Central to Birmingham New Street Regional Railways service. 155317 was just a couple of months old at the time, and the class was seen as the answer to the problem of first generation DMU replacement. Unfortunately a series of door faults tarnished their reputation, and although that problem was fixed, other later new build classes generally replaced them, and most Class 155s were later converted to single car Class 153s.
