165122 passes Wolvercote on 10 April 2010 with the 09:57 Bicester Town to Oxford First Great Western service. It has just emerged from the 155 yard long Wolvercote Tunnel, which is a cut and cover construction to accommodate the Oxford ring-road roundabout. FGW's purely local Bicester to Oxford shuttles is set to be replaced by a frequent Oxford to London service operated by Chiltern Railways. Although Wolvercote Tunnel is clearly built for double track (as indeed the line was originally), the reinstatement of double track on the route is set to end on the other side of the tunnel, leaving this short section towards Oxford single. However, pictures of FGW Class 165s at this location will soon be history, being replaced by Chiltern Railways Class 168s. |
