165128 passes the snowy fields at Bourton with the 10:00 Bristol Temple Meads to Oxford service on 29 December 2000. This short lived service was very poorly patronised principally because apart from the novelty of being able to travel from Bristol and Swindon to Oxford without changing trains it was of little practical use, as it merely duplicated other trains on the same route. If some local stations in the Vale of White Horse had been reopened it would have been of more benefit. There was a campaign to reopen Wantage Road which would have helped enormously, but the sheer inertia and difficulty of getting anything positive done on the railways delayed that plan either indefinitely or certainly until after these trains had stopped running! |
