165134 passes Shorthampton in hazy spring sunshine on 4 March 2013. This is not quite the everyday scene that it appears to be, as this train is a last minute substitution for a train that failed earlier on its journey. The errant train was the 1W32 12:21 Paddington to Great Malvern First Great Western service, which failed at Reading. Presumably this was one of the still not totally reliable Class 180s. Showing commendable quick thinking and surprising initiative given the lack of flexibility on today's railway, someone managed to arrange for this two car Class 165 to form the special 1Z32 13:25 Oxford to Worcester Foregate Street. Given the circumstances it is hardly surprising that it was running 20 minutes behind time when it passed me. |
