165137 Shrivenham (Ashbury Crossing) 19 August 1998

165137 catches the evening light as it approaches the site of Ashbury Crossing (near Shrivenham) on 19 August 1998 with the newly introduced 18:23 Bicester Town to Bristol Temple Meads service. This train was operated jointly by Thames Trains and Great Western Trains. Thames operating the Bicester to Oxford section, and Great Western taking over from there. Although the idea of a direct Oxford to Bristol service seemed like a good idea, patronage was low, and the service only lasted for a few years. The site of the old down relief line at this location is often used for the storage of engineering equipment, and on this occasion brand new crossover pointwork is being stored, pending its installation nearby (presumably at Bourton).
