Soft evening light at Cholsey on 22 July 1994, as 166213 accelerates away from Cholsey station with the 1F76 18:38 Paddington to Oxford Network SouthEast service. This was a Friday, and therefore the Oxford passengers would be in for a longer journey, as on a Friday the train spent an extra five minutes at Didcot Parkway station, resulting in an arrival at Oxford at 20:05, instead of 19:59 during the rest of the week! The Manor Farm bridge seen here was a popular photographic location for generations of railway enthusiasts. That all came to and end in 2015 with the installation of huge parapet extensions, and the onward march of the Great Western Mainline electfrication programme. |
