A brief gap in the clouds at Lower Basildon on 15 March 1995. 166220 runs along the down relief line with the 14:45 Paddington to Oxford service. This was the immediate post privatisation period, when Network SouthEast had ceased to exist, but the franchise operators (in this case Thames Trains) had yet to do any major rebranding. It was also unfortunately when Railtrack was created, an organisation that deferred much essential maintenance, which resulted in a number of serious accidents. |
