168218 & 168216 speed past the site of Ashendon Junction on 10 August 2012 with the 1H09 06:19 Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone Chiltern Railways service. In pre-grouping days the line from High Wycombe and Princes Risborough was owned jointly by the Great Western and Great Central Railways. At Ashendon Junction the two routes diverged, with the Great Western heading towards Banbury, and the Great Central towards Calvert. Only the former GWR route remains open today. The junction employed a flyover, which explains why the two lines can be seen diverging at this point. Note how the public footpath has its own little central refuge between the two tracks. |
