Golden evening light at Great Heck on 4 September 1999, as 170110 heads south with the 1C59 17:02 Scarborough to St Pancras Midland Mainline service. The majority of trains on the ECML were operated by either GNER or Virgin Trains at this time, with Midland Mainline being very much an interloper, with just this train from the east coast resort. Not only was the Midland Mainline livery seen here rendered obsolete by the company's more restrained later colour scheme, but also Midland Mainline itself is now no more, replaced by East Midlands Trains. The company stopped using Class 170s in 2004, and as a further indication of the number of changes since this picture was taken, 170110 is now a three car unit, after centre car 55101 was added in 2001. |
