Shortly after sunrise on 4 May 2016, 220009 approaches Culham with the 1M18 05:15 Southampton to Manchester Piccadilly CrossCountry service. Dominating the background is the sad remains of Didcot Power Station, with the partially collapsed turbine hall on the left. Whilst being prepared fro demolition in February 2016, half of the building collapsed without warning, killing four people. Unbelievably, over ten weeks later three of the men are still buried underneath the rubble. The steam rising from behind the cooling towers is from the still working Didcot B gas fired plant. |
