The faded glory of Sligo station, pictured on 24 May 2018. With just a single platform in use, and with the overall roof having spent nearly a century as a steel skeleton, after being set on fire during the Irish Civil War, the station certainly presents a forlorn appearance. However, at least it still survives, as in the UK it would probably have been bulldozed and replaced by a short platform with one miserable 'bus shelter'! Iarnród Éireann 22000 Class 22012 waits in the platform, prior to departure with the 15:00 service to Dublin Connolly. |
