Modern history at South Moreton (Didcot East) on 28 October 2003. The then relatively new 221118 runs along the up relief line with the 08:04 Liverpool Lime Street to Portsmouth Harbour Virgin CrossCountry service. The cooling towers, the gas holder, and even the view itself have all disappeared, but unfortunately the Voyager is still with us. Heralded as a big step forward when they were introduced, these DMUs were not an adequate substitute for the loco hauled trains that they replaced, and are now regarded as only marginally better than the Pacers by the travelling public! |
