The Bletchley to Bedford line used to be a wonderful backwater of semaphore signaling and manually controlled level crossing gates, until it was completely modernised a few years ago, robbing it of any character. However, this user operated crossing at Berry Lane, Aspley Guise, still survives, providing a hint of the old railway. 230005 accelerates away from Aspley Guise station (just visible in the background) with the 2S11 11:01 Bletchley to Bedford London Northwestern service on 2 October 2019. A woman from the nearby farm was waiting to cross after this had passed, and when I explained that I was photographing these new units, she said: 'What, the one's that keep breaking down?'! |
