31222 heads north at Ampthill (Millbrook) on 29 May 1988 with a lengthy train of side tipping Mermaid ballast wagons. The loco was withdrawn five months after this picture was taken, after suffering fire damage at Cricklewood. It was scrapped at Vic Berry's, Leicester, in 1990.
