Old and new liveries at Conington Fen on 16 August 1988. Rail blue 317357 leads an unidentified Network SouthEast liveried unit with the 17:13 Kings Cross to Peterborough service. The large flat area on the right is the site of a wartime marshalling yard, variously described as sidings for trains of rubble from bomb damaged London buildings, or as an emergency backup to the yard at March. The site was later used for the disposal of railway ballast and ash. |
