33035 Spitfire passes Appledore on 18 May 1995 with the 7O62 06:29 Willesden to Dungeness nuclear flask. This was in the days when commonsense prevailed, and a single 1,550 hp loco was deemed sufficient for this lightweight load, rather than the wasteful use of 6,800 hp from a pair of Class 68s, as happens now. It's not as if the flask is going to start leaking radiation if it happens to stop somewhere because the single loco has failed! |
