City Class 4-4-0 3440 City of Truro passes Rowington on 3 May 1992 with a Derby to Paddington special. Unfortunately it is unlikely that we will ever see this loco on the mainline again, as it was withdrawn in 2013 with leaking tubes. I find it particularly annoying that although this was the first steam locomotive to reach a speed of 100mph, it has been relatively neglected in favour of the LNER usurper Flying Scotsman. One thing is certain, there is more of the original record breaking City of Truro left than there is of Flying Scotsman, which has had so many costly rebuilds over the years, that virtually everything has been replaced!
