City Class 4-4-0 3440 City of Truro stands next to the Alcester Road bridge at Stratford-upon-Avon on 13 May 1989, after working a VIP charter from Didcot. Visible in the background are the buffer stops marking the end of the line, which formerly carried on via Long Marston and Honeybourne to Cheltenham. The line was closed as a through route in 1976, with the track being lifted three years later. Further south, part of the route has been reopened as the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. |
