The distinctive North Eastern Railway signal box completely dominates this view of Wylam station on 15 November 1999. This is one of only two such over-line boxes to survive, the other being at nearby Hexham. Naturally both are grade II listed. 37040 passes through the station with the 6T95 08:50 Carlisle to Nunthorpe sandite train, with 37274 bringing up the rear.
