The signal box survives here because when the line was constructed, the owner of Crabley Farm (the only buildings on the south side of the line) only allowed a level crossing to be built on condition that the adjacent signal box was always manned. A very necessary requirement, as otherwise the farm would be cut off, as the River Humber prevents any access from the south.
