37204 & 37158 accelerate away from Oxford North Junction with the 6V11 10:03 Wolverton to Stoke Gifford ARC stone empties on 4 September 1984. The back of the train is still on the former LMS single track Bicester line, which at this time was freight only. Despite the fact that this picture was taken before the introduction of the Avon binliner, the Bicester route was relatively busy, with MoD trains and the occasional empty stock move to Wolverton in addition to two stone trains per day. The rear loco is displaying the characteristic signs of stone train use - a good helping of the product on the roof! It always amazed me that this didn't cause damage to the exhaust ports and cooling fan. |
