37229 Fiddington 1 September 1987

37229 The Cardiff Rod Mill is appropriate traction for the 6M12 12:40 Cardiff Tidal to Wednesbury steel service, seen here passing Fiddington on a slightly misty 1 September 1987. The loco had been named in May 1984 to mark the one millionth tonne of steel shipped by rail from the mill. The small plate visible above the nameplate is the Allied Steel & Wire logo. 37229 lost its name in 1988, with the plates being transferred to 37712. This was not the end of the matter, as the name was then transferred to 56060, and then 56052!
