37244 & 37214 head north past Hinksey Yard on 17 August 1988 with a rake of MGR empties. This is a bit of a mystery, as it is clearly not one of the booked MGRs from Didcot Power Station, as they passed by hauled by Class 58s, as usual. I have seen a couple of other pictures of a similar working around this date, so it is presumably not a one off. My guess is the train has either come from Didcot Power Station, or Westbury Cement Works. As both locos were allocated to Cardiff Canton at the time, it implies that it is heading back to South Wales, obviously by a very devious route. Any information on this unusual working would be gratefully received. |
