On an exceedingly gloomy 24 September 1983, 37271 & 37304 stand at Kemble station with the 3B42 09:15 Gloucester to Swindon parcels train. They are waiting for Class 117 DMU B439 to arrive with the 2B20 09:42 Swindon to Cheltenham service, the line to the south of Kemble of course being single track. These two locomotives have had wildly differing careers since this photo was taken. 37271 became 37418 and after working passenger trains in Scotland and Wales, has found a new lease of life in preservation. In contrast, 37304, although being renumbered 37272 and then 37334, was withdrawn in 2005 and cut up at Booth's at Rotherham.
