An extremely rare event took place on the Cotswold Line on 26 March 1989 resulting in the unprecedented sight of a Class 37 working a passenger train over the route. 50033 Glorious was booked to work the 1A65 16:15 Hereford to Paddington service but was unavailable due to overnight vandalism at Hereford. The only available loco was 37280, which duly worked the train as far as Oxford. It is pictured here arriving at Kingham exactly on time in the last rays of the setting sun. Of course nowadays this train would just be cancelled, but in the 1980s there were still resources to cope with the unexpected, something which the railways of today are totally incapable of doing. |
