On a very gloomy 29 October 1982, 37300 & 37278 slowly weave onto the relief line at Oxford with the 6V11 09:30 Wolverton to Stoke Gifford ARC stone empties. Not only the traction has changed in the intervening years, as the scrapyard behind the locos is now Oxford station's car park. In 1982 it was still possible to while away the time between trains by watching the local scarp merchant load assorted metallic junk (latterly mostly crushed cars) into the few 16 ton wagons that had been shunted into the yard by Oxford's resident Class 08 Shunter. |
