28 March 2009 witnessed the extremely unusual sight of a single Class 37 in charge of a twelve coach passenger train on the national network. After scrabbling around unsuccessfully to find a second serviceable 37, the Pathfinder Tours 1Z37 05:32 Nottingham to Margam 'Cwm and Go(ne)' railtour headed south with just 37401 in charge. It is pictured here in atrocious light as it passes Fiddington (between Ashchurch and Cheltenham). Despite the heavy load and presumably the demands of electric train heating, the train was running well and only a couple of minutes late as it passed me. 37406 was resurrected later in the day and sent to Wales presumably to help with the ascent of the Lickey on the return (still some hours off as I type this!). |
