37406 heads down the Ardingly branch at Copyhold Junction with the Pathfinder Tours 1Z37 08:35 Paddington to Ardingly 'Buffer Puffer 4.0' railtour on 20 January 2007, with 37410 on the rear. Note the sandbags on the right supporting the embankment. Overnight there had been a landslip following heavy rains and large section of the cutting side had become unstable, a situation aggravated by the removal of the trees, whose roots help stabilize the cutting sides. In fact railway contractors were still at work, and at intervals up trains were stopped while a digger worked at the top of the cutting. |
