During 2003 & 2004 Arriva Trains Northern utilised a pair of hired in EWS 37s on a daily Knaresborough - Leeds - Carlisle - Leeds - Knaresborough circuit using a rake of four Mk2 coaches. Catching a very brief patch of sunshine on the approach to Rise Hill Tunnel on 6 September 2004, 37408 Loch Rannoch heads north with the 1M53 09:47 Leeds to Carlisle service, with 37411 The Scottish Railway Preservation Society bringing up the rear.
