A clear sunny spring morning in Glen Falloch on 28 April 1998, as 37410 Aluminium 100 with the 1Y11 05:05 Edinburgh to Fort William ScotRail sleeper heads towards Crianlarich. In the still air the train could be heard for about ten minutes before it came into view. The end for regular Class 37 haulage on these trains came in 2006, although Transrail liveried locos and InterCity stock hadn't been seen for a number of years. The replacement traction was the totally unsuitable Class 67. These overweight 125mph locos were only chosen because they were surplus to requirements and can supply ETS, otherwise it is difficult to think of a more inappropriate locomotive for this line. |
