Just about the most difficult conditions that I have ever taken a railway picture in! 37411 Ty Hafan approaches Horseshoe Curve, near Tyndrum, on 12 April 2000 with the 6Y45 06:36 Mossend to Fort William Enterprise service. Pouring with rain, and with abysmally low light levels (especially for Fujichrome 100), it was a real effort to get this picture, and not just because of the walk of over a mile to get there! As EWS were about to withdraw this wagonload service, I wanted a picture at this particular location, whatever the weather. The biggest problem, in addition to the rain being driven into the lens, was the high humidity causing the lens and viewfinder to fog up. I kept cleaning the filter on the front of the lens, but when I took this the viewfinder was so steamed up that I could hardly see what I was pointing the camera at! |
