37418 East Lancashire Railway & 37421 thrash their way up Glen Falloch with the 1Z23 09:23 Edinburgh to Oban VSOE Northern Belle on 11 April 2004. Slightly unusual for a railtour this was running exactly to time! The West Highland line abounds in good photographic locations north of Crianlarich, but the section from Dumbarton to Crianlarich is a different story. For long stretches up until Ardlui the line is hemmed in by trees. Even here, between Ardlui and Crianlarich, finding an original location away from the hackneyed views in something of a challenge.
