Last Rites in the Valleys. 37419 catches the last rays of the evening sun as it rounds the curve into Aber (near Caerphilly) on 10 December 2005 with the 2F34 14:15 Rhymney to Cardiff on what was supposed to be the final day of Class 37 haulage on the line. Note the wreath above the left buffer. In the event loco haulage lasted for nearly another year, but eventually the local passengers would no longer have the luxury of proper air conditioned coaches but would have to get used to basic coaching stock, with a diesel engine rattling under the floor! Such is progress. |
