What was supposedly going to be the last day of locomotive haulage on the Cardiff to Rhymney line on 10 December 2005 involved two challenges; finding somewhere that was clear of the fog in the morning, and finding a new spot away from the hackneyed locations that were swarming with other photographers. I think I succeeded with this location, Coed Llanbradach, between Ystrad Mynach and Llanbradach. My colleague at the top of the valley was standing in sunshine while I waited in the fog for this picture. However, the fog had rolled in when 37419 passed him at Pontlottyn, but had cleared by the time it got to me with the 2F22 11:14 Rhymney to Cardiff. Although not far from the road, the location is not easy to get to, as the path which goes through a farmyard is not obvious from the road. I'm reasonably pleased with the picture despite the encroaching shadows, the few remaining leaves on the trees behind forming a pleasant backdrop. |
