37430 Cwmbran approaches Chaddington Lane (near Wootton Bassett) on 27 October 1989 with a westbound breakdown train. Unfortunately the signal gantry at this location tends to get in the way for photography. At least on a miserably dull day like this, a picture can be taken from the north side of the line. I have deliberately taken the picture a little early, to balance the composition between the short train and the gantry. Despite the horrendous film grain of Kodachrome 200, it is still very sharp, and on the original scan a magpie can clearly be seen taking off from the stubble field in the background! |
