With silver buffers added by 'Special Arrangement', 37610 & 37612 pass Barton-under-Needwood on 16 August 1997 with the 4O31 15:16 Leeds to Southampton freightliner. This was the first occasion that a pair of DRS 37/6s were used on this train, which was intended as a four week trial of DRS traction. The test was obviously successful, as DRS 37s continued on this train for a while, although sometimes with only a single locomotive.
