37669 & 37706 head down the Stroud Valley at St Mary's Crossing on 22 November 2025 with the Pathfinder Tours 1Z42 06:30 Oxford Parkway to Blackburn 'Chester Christmas Explorer' railtour. This was Pathfinder's penultimate tour, and to mark the end of 52 years of railtouring, 37669 is carrying both Pathfinder and F&W Railtours (the original name) headboards. Although most of the autumn leaves had fallen, I wanted to photograph this in the Golden Valley, from what used to be a well known photographic location in steam days, but now seems to be little visited. This is the site of St Mary's Crossing Halt, and the bridge abutment on the right marks the site of the infilled bridge over the Thames & Severn Canal. Some idea of just how dark this was can be judged by the brightness of the cab lights, especially on the second locomotive. |
