40143 rests between duties on Buxton shed on 19 June 1984, in the company of 20191. This is my only picture of a split box Class 40 in BR service. 40143 entered service (as D343) in May 1961. When photographed it had just made its last depot move, from Crewe to Longsight. It was one of the last of the class to be withdrawn, succumbing, like the rest of the fleet apart from the few departmental locos, and D200, in January 1985.
