43002 is still accelerating away from Kemble station, as it passes the site of Coates goods station on 16 May 2015 with the 1G60 18:15 Paddington to Cheltenham Spa First Great Western service. Originally opened as Tetbury Road passenger station with the opening of the line in 1845, the station closed to passengers in 1882, being replaced by the junction station at Kemble (a short distance to the south). In 1908 it was renamed Coates. For over 80 years it operated as a purely goods station, being conveniently situated next to the Fosse Way (now the A433). |
