43002 Great Bedwyn 1 June 2019

HST sunset! 43002 Sir Kenneth Grange brings up the rear of the very last standard length GWR HST operated train, the 1Z25 18:57 Paddington to Plymouth 'Flying Banana' railtour, as it passes Great Bedwyn on 1 June 2019. 43198 Driver Brian Cooper 15 June 1947 - 5 October 1999 was leading. There were obviously lots of photographers beside the Kennet & Avon Canal a little further on at Crofton, judging by the fanfare of horns as the train disappeared into the distance. Although it is excellent news that 43002 is going to be preserved, it is not so good that it is the National Railway Museum that is claiming it, as they have a poor record at looking after modern traction exhibits. Look what happened to a fully working 50033 Glorious, after a few years in their 'care'.
