43004 Borough of Swindon slowly approaches Wolvercote Junction on 14 August 1997 with the 1B48 17:10 Paddington to Hereford Great Western Trains service. 43304 had been named a few months earlier to celebrate the creation of the Borough of Swindon, splitting it administratively from the rest of Wiltshire. It seems that a 'Merlin' liveried power car with a complete rake of InterCity stock was quite common on this train at the time. I saw exactly the same combination exactly one month earlier! |
