The perfect 1980s combination of a sunny evening and Kodachrome 64. 43008 approaches the site of Knighton Crossing on 26 May 1989 with the 1B54 17:59 Paddington to Swansea InterCity service. Judging by the relatively new blue paint on the permanent way hut's door and shutters, it hasn't been that long since it was last in use. Commonplace until the 1970s, these huts were once used for storing tools, and for gangers (as they used to be called) to take their breaks in. Now of course all the track workers arrive by van, along with their tools. |
