43038 passes the site of Finedon station with the 07:07 Sheffield to St Pancras service on 1 August 1992. 43038 is painted in an unusual variation of the InterCity livery, with yellow covering virtually all of the front end, and most surprisingly a white cab roof. As can be seen from the condition this is in here, white is hardly the most practical colour for an HST power car roof. When the power car is at he rear of the train the exhaust gets pulled down by the slipstream with obvious results. The exhaust deflector plates fitted shortly after the class was introduced were supposed to alleviate this, but obviously they are only partially successful!
