43056 The Royal British Legion approaches Circourt Bridge, Denchworth, on 5 January 2017 with the 1L36 08:31 Cheltenham Spa to Paddington GWR service. This was travelling at full line speed, but would soon experience a sudden brake application, as the result of a bizarre signalling move. 70801 had for some time been sat at a red signal a little further along the up relief line with the 6M50 07:55 Westbury to Bescot engineers train. However, just before this HST was due, it was let out onto the main line, with the result that the HST had to overtake it by using the bi-directional signalling capabilities of the route, and passing it on the down main! Even so, this odd manoeuvre delayed the train by several minutes.
