In fine early morning lighting, which certainly highlights the Virgin Cross Country red livery, 43093 (appropriately named Lady In Red) climbs the 1 in 37 Lickey Incline with the 1E28 07:04 Bristol Temple Meads to Newcastle service on 24 May 1997. The location is Pikes Pool, approximately half way up the formidable gradient that was once such an operational problem in the days of steam. No such problems with a HST however, which not only has plenty of power but its own banker as well!
