The railway at Chalford, on the 'Golden Valley' route between Cheltenham and Swindon, has become very overgrown in recent years, with trees and bushes almost touching the trains. In addition, the down line near the site of Chalford station has grass and other weeds growing in the 'four foot'. 43094 climbs the gradient past the site of the old station on 15 July 2013 with the 1L36 08:31 Cheltenham to Paddington First Great Western service. The terrible state of the down line can clearly be seen here. As the line curves away in the background, a carpet of grass completely covers the sleepers! The old time track lengthmen would have a heart attack if they saw a mainline in this condition. |
