Neatly framed by one of the arches of Souldern No.2 Viaduct, 43158 heads south with the diverted 1Z19 08:50 Paddington to Swansea First Great Western service on 7 April 2013. A little earlier this train had crossed over the viaduct, heading in the opposite direction towards a reversal at Banbury. This lengthy detour was necessary due to the closure of Reading station for major engineering work. It only occurred to me that this would make a good picture whilst walking back to the car. Noticing that there was a reasonably clear gap under the arch, I thought it would make an excellent picture, as long as I could get the power car positioned correctly. Not easy as there is no margin for error and it is travelling at speed. Luckily it seems to have worked! |
