43159 passes Lock No. 57 on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Crofton with the 06:46 Penzance to Paddington service on 15 January 1991. A very cold morning which started with a hard frost, which by the time this train passed had largely gone, although the edge of the lock was still very slippery. Therefore it was lucky that to perfectly position the lock gates for this picture I didn't have to stand right on the edge! The milepost on the right indicates 68¾ miles from Paddington and the adjacent sign is a speed restriction for the curve by Crofton Pumping Station. |
