Autumn tints at Brimpton on 19 October 2000, as 43168 heads towards London with the late running 1A27 05:15 Penzance to Paddington 'Golden Hind'. This was the first up train of the morning from Cornwall, if you don't include the one that starts late the previous day. Although not a very inspired livery, and nothing like as attractive as the previous Great Western Trains 'Merlin' colour scheme, I should have made more of an effort to photograph HSTs in First Great Western's 'fag packer' livery. At the time however, I was still chasing all over the country searching out the last of the classic freight traction, and so can be excused for neglecting the everyday local scene. |
